The All-Star Buglers are a group of professional race track buglers and associate buglers who perform the traditional "First Call" along with many other fanfares and tunes at major horse racing events and other venues around the country. The group was founded by Meadowlands bugler Mark O'Keeffe in July 1997 and is based in Philadelphia, PA and Tampa, FL.
Since 1997, The All-Star Buglers have entertained hundreds of thousands of live patrons (and millions more in simulcast land) at 25 race tracks in 13 states at some of America's most prestigious horse racing events such as: The Breeders' Cup (G1), The Belmont Stakes (G1), The Hambletonian, The Santa Anita Handicap (G1), The Florida Derby (G1), The Haskell Invitational (G1), and many, many more. The group has been a tradition at the Ocala Championships, having made eleven consecutive appearances at that event. They have also performed the national anthem at many major league baseball games for the Tampa Bay Rays (at Progress Energy Park and Tropicana Field in St. Petersburg, FL) and for the Philadelphia Phillies (at Citizens Bank Park in Philadelphia, PA).
Perhaps their biggest break came on August 7, 2003 when All-Star Buglers Rich Garrick and Mark O'Keeffe taped a segment for "The Late Show with David Letterman" (episode # 220) which was broadcast on August 8, 2003, and re-broadcast on September 25, 2003. The sketch called for Rich and Mark to "interupt" Dave's monologue by walking out on stage and taking their places on either side of him, raising their herald trumpets and performing a simple version of "First Call" in unison. After the call, they lowered their trumpets and exited the stage to a huge round of applause from the studio audience as well as the amused host.
The group also performs in various combinations to suit your musical needs. Trumpet duos, trios and quartets are available for weddings, award ceremonies, parties, and ground breaking ceremonies. We are committed to educating young musicians through clinics, as well as performances with concert bands and orchestras, and of course race track events. We can also provide a brass ensemble with anywhere from 5-14 musicians for parades, concerts, and other functions.
